**Meeting Place: Sheppard Quarry, behind the Waterdown Walmart at 90 Dundas street E.
Painting en plein air is beneficial to the artist in that you witness true colours and values, the shifting
of light and shadow, the atmosphere and ambiance of landscape that you simply cannot get when
painting in a studio or from a photograph. Enjoy the local flora and fauna and fresh air. Listen to the
birds and peace and quiet as you enjoy an afternoon of art making.
Join local artist and instructor, Michelle Teitsma as you learn the benefits of painting outdoors. For
the beginner as well as intermediate artist, Michelle will demonstrate how she interprets a chosen
site into an acrylic and a watercolour painting. During this time she will discuss art basics and colour
theory which will help you as you begin your own painting using any chosen medium. Plenty of
helpful tips as you progress. Instruction on values, spatial and colour relationships and how to
harness that elusive light that comes with working outside, all the while working with you to bring
your painting to a loose finish. Artists who wish to finish their work at their home studio can email
the instructor for a final critique.
*Students need to bring their materials of choice: seating and easel, hat, sun screen, bug repellent,
water, one viewfinder for choosing frame of reference. Clips for holding down paper if a windy day.
Always remember to leave the site as you found it.
