Throwing, handbuilding and altering with Bruce Cochrane

Join us for an inspiring two-day workshop with Bruce, where he will demonstrate 3–4 dynamic techniques that combine both throwing and hand-building processes. These methods will be used to create functional forms such as bowls, boxes, plates, and lidded serving dishes.

Demonstrations will include:

• Thrown oval form with lid – Exploring form and function in a seamless design.
• Thrown bowl with relief surface – Adding texture and depth through surface decoration.
• Slab-built box with thrown elements – Combining structured slab construction with wheel-thrown accents.
• Drop rim slab plate with thrown foot – Merging slab-building techniques with refined wheel-thrown details.

On Day 2, participants will have the opportunity to refine their skills by focusing on one or more of these techniques. With hands-on guidance from Bruce, each participant will create their own unique work, applying the demonstrated methods to their personal artistic style.

This workshop is perfect for those looking to expand their ceramic techniques and push the boundaries of functional form, students should be able to throw a minimum of 3lb of clay

Credit Policy

Pottery Workshops: Credits can be issued if you provide at least 2 days' notice before the scheduled workshop. Unfortunately, credits are not available for other types of workshops.
