Day 1 – Demonstration & Presentation

Full-day demo with a 1-hour lunch break

Focus on creating large-scale utilitarian pottery—bowls, pitchers, teapots, baskets, and plates for special occasions and presentation

Day 2 – Hands-On Workshop with Tony Clennell

Techniques include:

• Sectional / composite throwing (joining multiple parts to create one vessel)
• Handles: thrown, pulled, hand-built, and Tony’s signature “extreme handles”
• Surface & mark-making with gestural brushwork and tactile, geological textures
• Emphasis on leaving the maker’s marks—your personal signature in clay
• Opportunity to push boundaries, experiment, and develop your own signature style
• Bisque firing provided for students without kiln access (pieces can be returned glazed for second firing
• Visual Presentations:
• “Production versus One-Offs” — insights from a four-month study of porcelain production in Jingdezhen, China
• “Fail: It Ain’t So Bad. Look at Me!” — reflections on 35+ years of studio practice

In the event a class is canceled due to circumstances beyond our control, such as inclement weather or other unforeseen situations, refunds will not be issued. However, the class will be rescheduled to ensure you don’t miss out on the experience. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility!

Credit Policy

Pottery Workshops: Credits can be issued if you provide at least 2 days' notice before the scheduled workshop. Unfortunately, credits are not available for other types of workshops.
